In this world where tradition is compromised by conveniences and modern alternatives, Lux Sacra Candles seek to revive the fervor for traditional beeswax candle sticks to elevate worship on church altars.
Why use Beeswax candles?
Candles have a venerable place in the Church's liturgical life particularly so in respect of what it symbolises, namely Our Lord Jesus Christ, the light of the world. The wax which forms the body of the candle is produced by the "labor of bees". Each bee consumes 8 grams of honey in order to produce 1 gram of beeswax. To make 1 gram of honey, the bee visits 50,000 flowers. To produce 1 gram of beeswax, the bee would have visited 400,000 flowers. To make a 77g taper candle, the bees would have visited 30.8 million flowers!
Worker bees are all female bees with perpetual virginity fittingly so produce the purest beeswax which symbolises the body of Christ and illuminating the brightest and purest flame symbolising His divinity. A parallel is drawn between the worker bees and the Blessed ever Virgin Mary who gave Our Lord His body.
Why not 100% Beeswax for candle sticks?
It is a myth that 100% beeswax candles will burn completely without dripping. Though beeswax have high melting points of 65-68 degrees celsius, its naturally soft and would melt into a puddle of wax easily. Therefore, it is not practical to use a 100% beeswax candle on the altar.
The church approves of 51% beeswax component for altar candles and 61% beeswax component for Pascal candles. Lux Sacra Candles believe in maximising the utility of the candle while maximising the quantity of the beeswax component in the candle. Most of our candles are 80% - 90% made of beeswax depending on the candle model and beeswax supply. The additives will help the candles perform better in terms of dripless burn time (minimum burn duration) and overall burn time (maximum burn duration).
Lux Sacra Candles tests our products to increase the burn time of the candle and extend the initial hours of dripless burning. We recommend the use of candle followers to eradicate dripping entirely. Have a look at our collection of brass candle followers.
